Escape Plan:
Get ready for a day of excitement, because rafting the White Salmon River is one of the best-kept recreation secrets of the northwest! Located only 90 minutes from Portland, this river offers some of the best class III-IV rapids in the country. The White Salmon is federally protected as a "Wild & Scenic River", and it’s not hard to see why. The river cuts its way through one of the most beautiful, constricted and heavily forested gorges around. The water is crystal clear, the weather is fantastic and rapids are both big and numerous. All this plus the tallest commercially raftable waterfall in the nation, 14-foot Class 5 Husum Falls, make the White Salmon River one of the most exciting 1/2-day river trips in the west!
On our way east to the White Salmon, we will enjoy some of the spectacular waterfalls, towering basalt cliffs and views of Mt. Adams that make the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area a world-class destination. During the drive your naturalist guide will describe the geological events that have shaped this masterpiece of a landscape over millions of years.
Then, after a thrilling day of conquering the river, we will pass through the picturesque town of Hood River on our way back to Portland. Here we can watch the impressive and often death-defying acrobatics of wind surfers and kite boarders as they zip back and forth across the mighty Columbia River. As you take in the brilliant array of color and movement, reward yourself for your own day’s adventure with a refreshing beverage from Full Sail Brewery.
