Escape Plan:
Venture down the Interstate 45 minutes to the natural treasure that is Nisqually Wildlife Refuge! Three thousand acres of salt and freshwater marshes, grasslands, riparian, and mixed forest habitats provide resting and nesting areas for migratory waterfowl, songbirds, raptors, and wading birds. We will either take the one-mile boardwalk Twin Barns Loop Trail or head out on the 5-mile Brown Farm Dike Trail and take in views of the many different habitats from observation platforms and photo blinds. This offers us countless opportunities to capture that perfect wild moment! Next we hop back in to the Escape Vehicle and head North through Tacoma on our way to the Point Defiance Ferry Terminal. Vashon Island can only be reached by this breathtakingly beautiful ferry ride where we discover a little piece of rural paradise. This afternoon we grab an ice cream and enjoy the calm beauty and fun-loving personality that is Vashon Island. Writers, Artists, Organic Farmers and ex-hippies call this quaint island home. Nestled in the "Heart of the Sound" with views of water or mountains at every corner, Vashon-Maury is truly an Island. There is something magical about being on this island, the pace is slower, people friendlier, attitudes relaxed and the patchwork of pastoral and natural settings make it a refreshing Northwest getaway. We stretch our legs a bit with an interpretive beach walk to Robinson Lighthouse. Today, we may see a salmon leap, an eagle soar overhead, hear the snort of a sea lion or the splash of an Orca!
