3-Day Oregon Coast Solar Eclipse Tour – Sold Out!

We’re sorry but this tour is sold out! Check out our other tours from Portland.

On August 21, 2017 a rare total solar eclipse will occur over the Oregon Coast. As the moon blocks the sun, a temporary twilight will fall across the land for two full minutes. Nearly a century will unfold until the next eclipse in the area, so you won’t want to miss it!

Oregon Coast Sunset

Experience this once-in-a-lifetime event on our three-day, naturalist-guided eclipse tour along the Oregon Coast. In addition to beholding the solar phenomenon directly in the path of totality, you’ll stay two nights in the exclusive comfort of the Salishan Spa & Golf Resort, and spend time whale watching, wine tasting, and exploring the wild shorelines and quaint coastal towns of Oregon.

There will be two groups of only eight guests each on this tour. Each group will be led by an expert guide and transported in luxurious Mercedes Sprinter Vans.

Day 1 | Explore the Oregon Coast

Oregon CoastThis morning, your Evergreen Escapes guide will pick you up from your Portland hotel to begin your solar eclipse tour. Head to the Oregon Coast and stretch your legs at one of Oregon’s most iconic viewpoints, Ecola State Park.

Continuing south through Cannon Beach, you’ll follow the coast around the precipitous edge of Neakahnie Mountain, and then descend through Tillamook to the scenic Three Capes Loop. We’ll rest at Pacific City and Cape Kiwanda, where you can climb the dunes for a sweeping ocean view, or duck into the Pelican Brewery for a locally-brewed ale.

From Pacific City, we’ll move on to Salishan Spa & Golf Resort, which sits directly in the path of totality of the solar eclipse. Dinner is on your own at the lodge tonight, with a range of options from casual fare to fine dining.

Day 2 | Solar Eclipse Viewing & Whale Watching

Total Solar EclipseRelax at the resort this morning in preparation for the solar eclipse, which will occur shortly after 10:00 a.m. You’ll witness this momentous occasion from the open skies of the hotel grounds, directly in the path of totality. Then, after the eclipse, we’ll have a light lunch together and set out for Depoe Bay and Newport.

In Depoe Bay we’ll explore the world’s smallest navigable harbor, where curio shops and a boardwalk are perched just above the crashing surf. Then, we’ll take a boat tour in search of massive gray whales. These mighty animals flock to an extensive bench of offshore shallows that lies off the coast.

After whale watching, we’ll head to Newport to look for another marine mammal – sea lions! Rowdy and raucous, the sea lions vie for spots on the floating docks near the city’s seafood processors. We’ll stroll through Newport’s quaint downtown before an included dinner that highlights the local bounty of the sea.

*Weather contingency: In the case of a forecast of clouds on the coast, you will have the option to rise early and travel inland for a better opportunity to view the eclipse with clear skies.

Day 3 | Willamette Valley Wine Tasting & Return to Portland

Willamette ValleyOn the final day of our journey, we’ll return to Portland by way of the Willamette Valley. You’ll taste wine at two wineries in different sub-AVAs of this region. The Willamette Valley is known for its crisp white wines and subtle Pinot noirs, both of which you’ll try during our boutique wine tasting.

We’ll return to Portland by 4 p.m. and deliver you to your Portland hotel or the airport to end your Oregon Coast Solar Eclipse Tour.
