4-Day Hiking and Mountain Biking Team Adventure at Dunton Hot Springs

Dunton Hot Springs - Fall Image

All-Inclusive | Facilitated Team Adventure Sample Itinerary

4 Day | 3 Night

Dunton Hot Springs is a small and exclusive resort nestled deep in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies. This perfectly restored ghost town thrives on contradictions; hand- hewn log cabins exquisitely furnished, a life-worn saloon serving food of startling quality, lung torturing trails followed by pampering massages, sensuous hot springs beneath shimmering snow banks. Free of cell phones, this romantic old mining town still provides high-speed wireless internet access in every cabin and video conferencing in our dance hall to the comforting sound of a tumbling waterfall. In this incredible location, your team will be supported yet challenged by our Program Leaders to push their individual and collective comfort zones, move beyond old ways of thinking and interacting, and create new approaches to teamwork, collaboration, and communication.

Facilitated team adventures are proudly presented by Muddy Shoe Adventures & Evergreen Escapes. Learn more about our process and philosophy here.

Day 1 | Arrive at Dunton Hot Springs | The Call to Adventure

Fly into either Durango (DRO) or Telluride (TEX), where you will be picked up by MSA / DHS staff and transported to your luxury cabin at Dunton Hot Springs. Upon arrival and check-in, you’ll have some time to relax, explore the property, or mingle with your fellow adventurers before our program officially begins at 3PM in the Main Lodge. Here, we’ll get to know one another better, review the program itinerary for the next 4 days, and answer any questions you may have about the program. We’ll also dive into the current situation with your group / organization and get clear on what called you to this adventure and what you hope to get out of it.

Afterwards, you’ll be treated to a brief history of Dunton Hot Springs and (weather permitting) a walking tour of the property. At 7PM, we’ll enjoy a special Welcome Dinner prepared by the incredible staff at Dunton Hot Springs. After dinner, socialize around the campfire.

Day 2 | Guided Hiking Excursion | The Hero’s Journey

What better way to start your adventure than with an optional yoga or meditation class at 6AM? Work up an appetite and then satisfy your hunger with a healthy and delicious breakfast prepared by DHS’s chef’s. Fill up, because we’ll spend the next 3 hours exploring the local trails of the San Juan Mountains on a guided hiking adventure. You’ll learn about the local environment and natural history while enjoying breathtaking views.

We’ll head back to DHS for lunch before reconvening for an afternoon of powerful conversations led and facilitated by MSA Program Leaders. Our focus will be on the Journey that your team is on, and we will incorporate lessons and experiences from the morning’s hike into our conversation. Topics may include: The importance of developing a plan and strategy, always being prepared, communicating effectively, and taking time to reflect. Before dinner, enjoy time relaxing in the hot springs, reading in the library, or sipping an adult beverage in the bar. Tonight, weather permitting, we’ll sit around the campfire cooking s’mores and sharing ghost stories!

Day 3 | Mountain Biking Adventure | Reaching Your Peak

A morning of mountain biking awaits! Today’s adventure is an exciting 3-hour mountain biking excursion. We’ll begin with a 1.5-hour ride up the gravel road to the top of the Winter Trail, where we’ll enjoy a break and a snack. We’ll then begin our 45-minute descent right into Dunton for lunch. After lunch, we’ll reconvene for a rich discussion centered on the mountain biking adventure. Themes might include: The interdependent nature of teams, using equipment / technology to help us achieve our goals, and/or understanding what it takes to reach our personal and professional goals!

Before dinner, take some time to enjoy the natural hot springs, explore the grounds and local hiking trails, or converse with colleagues over a cocktail at the bar.

Day 4 | Program Ends & Departure from Dunton Hot Springs | Creating the Vision & Strategic Action Plans

The final day of our program begins with a special breakfast prepared by the DHS staff. Afterwards, we’ll convene in the main lodge for a morning of action planning and strategizing. We will officially close the program before lunch with an inspirational and powerful Closing Ceremony. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to either Durango (DRO) or Telluride (TEX) for your flight home.
