Loop through British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies on this classic Rocky Mountaineer train trip departing from Seattle and ending in Vancouver. Travel north through Vancouver and onto the Sea to Sky corridor with its breathtaking views of the Coast Mountains and Howe Sound. Journey from the resort town of Whistler to Quesnel, the gateway to North Cariboo, passing glacier-fed lakes and the farmlands of the Pemberton Valley along the way. Then head east through the Canadian Rockies to Jasper National Park where you’ll spend a half-day touring the park’s main attractions and marveling in its jagged peaks and active wildlife. Finally, wind back west through river valleys and pristine forests with an overnight in the town of Kamloops on your way back to Vancouver!

Day 1 | Arrive in Seattle

Arrive in Seattle and spend time exploring Seattle’s waterfront, Chinatown, Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market, Space Needle, quirky neighborhoods, and/or beautiful parks on your own at leisure.

Day 2 | Seattle to Vancouver

Take in the sights of Seattle you missed yesterday before checking out of your hotel. A car will transfer you and your luggage to King Street Station to start the first leg of your Rocky Mountaineer journey to Vancouver.

Rocky Mountaineer - BC SalmonAfter boarding, raise a toast to the train voyage ahead and enjoy dinner on-board as you pass the Chittenden Locks linking Puget Sound to Lake Union and Lake Washington as you wave goodbye to Seattle. Highlights include the fishing fleet (and Boeing jets) of Everett, the fields at the foot of the Cascade Mountains near Mount Vernon, sunset views of Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands beyond, and, after crossing the Canadian border, the community of White Rock as the train hugs the Pacific Coast and travels into Vancouver. On arrival in Vancouver, a car will transfer you from Pacific Central Station to your nearby downtown hotel.

Day 3 | Vancouver to Whistler

Sea to Sky Corridor - Vancouver to WhistlerTravel on board the Rocky Mountaineer from the coastal city of Vancouver to the resort town of Whistler, renowned for outstanding skiing and year-round outdoor activities. Following your transfer from downtown Vancouver, the Rocky Mountaineer takes you on a breathtaking rail journey through the stunning scenery of the Sea to Sky Corridor. Highlights of the trip include spectacular views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains, Brandywine Falls, Mount Garibaldi and the impressive Cheakamus Canyon. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Day 4 | Whistler to Quesnel

Travel on board the Rocky Mountaineer to the charming rural town of Quesnel, gateway to the North Cariboo. Enjoy striking and varied scenery, from the river canyons and lush farmland of the Pemberton Valley, to the desert-like conditions of the Fraser Canyon, to the rolling hills and vast ranchlands of the Cariboo Plateau. Highlights include the shorelines of Anderson Lake and glacier-fed Seton Lake, sweeping views of the Fraser Canyon, and the crossing of Deep Creek Bridge, one of the highest railway bridges in the world. Your day concludes as the Rocky Mountaineer follows the banks of the Fraser River into Quesnel.

Day 5 | Quesnel to Jasper

Mt. RobsonYour journey continues eastwards today to the majestic Canadian Rockies and Jasper National Park. From Quesnel, the Rocky Mountaineer follows the Fraser River north to the town of Prince George, then travels east through the forests of northern British Columbia, home to plentiful wildlife, including a large population of moose. Entering the Rocky Mountain Trench you are surrounded by the steeply rising Rocky Mountains to the north and the Cariboo Mountains to the south. Continue climbing past Mount Robson, which at 12,972 feet is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, through Yellowhead Pass into the province of Alberta.

Day 6 | Jasper Highlights Tour

Jasper National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Canadian Rockies’ largest national park. Today you will enjoy a scenic half-day tour of some of the park’s natural attractions and rugged peaks, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the wildlife that calls this region home. The remainder of the day is free for you to independently explore more of Jasper.

Day 7 | Jasper to Kamloops

Pyramid FallsTravel on board the Rocky Mountaineer train from Jasper in the Canadian Rockies to Kamloops, in the heart of the British Columbia Interior. As you journey southwest you will be surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and by the river valleys of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Today’s highlights include Mount Robson, Pyramid Falls, the climb over Yellowhead Pass, and the journey along the North Thompson River as you approach Kamloops.

Day 8 | Kamloops to Vancouver

Your journey continues west towards the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver. On today’s journey you will again see dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the Interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade Mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your rail journey ends on arrival in Vancouver this evening.
