Seattle Surrounded by stunning wilderness and waterways, the Emerald City is defined by its natural beauty and eclectic urban charm. Iconic landmarks, historic districts, city woodlands, locks, and Discovery Park, the city’s most spectacular natural preserve are what the locals are most proud of. Spot for wildlife and learn the local and natural history, culture and geology of this diverse region.  Even learn how this city is changing worldviews on progressive and sustainable initiatives.

Mt. St. Helens National Monument Washingtonians are spoiled, we travel to one of their four Nationally protected natural areas, Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. This haunting and beautiful National Monument is truly site to behold. Few places in the world offer a better example of how a devastated ecosystem can recover and thrive once again.  At Johnston Ridge Observatory, just miles from the crater, you can view the massive crater and still steaming volcano up close.   Learn about how volcanoes are monitored, the geological events surrounding the 1980 eruption and the reforestation project still going on today.  For the adventure seeker, strap on a headlamp and go spelunking in the lava tubes!

Portland/ Willamette Valley Wine Country The “Rose City” is adored by all who visit, Portland is unique, vibrant, sustainable and beautiful. Iconic views abound of the surrounding volcanic peaks, waterways and dense forest. Explore the quirky neighborhoods, urban parks and learn of the local and natural history, including some of the elements that have caused Portland to be referred to as the most environmentally friendly or “green” city in the United States. This afternoon your naturalist guide will enlighten you with the rich ecology of the region, while at each stop dig a little deeper to explore the local winemaking history, the fine art of viticulture and Oregon’s commitment to sustainable farming practices.

Northern Oregon Coast has a number of Oregon’s favorite coastal destinations. From Astoria in the north, the oldest US settlement on the west coast, to Lincoln City in the south. Each of these quaint seaside towns are unique and enjoyable in their own right, with tons of history and tradition to share. Cannon Beach is the most popular destination because of its giant coastal monolith, Haystack Rock, and beautiful Ecola State Park.

[box]

Central Oregon Coast This world renowned stretch of windy coastal roads stretches 60 miles from Yachats up to Lincoln City with Waldport, Newport, Toledo, Siletz and Depoe Bay in between.  Lighthouses, fishing, whale watching expeditions, hiking and camping are just a few of the things you can do on the Heart of the Oregon Coast. Whatever you do, take a moment to feel the salt breeze on your face, hear the breakers crashing on the beaches and rocky shorelines or enjoy expansive views.  And don’t forget to take your shoes off to get your toes in the sand!

[/box]

Southern Oregon Coast With America’s Wild Rivers Coast” to the “Heart of the Dunes,” the South Coast offers an unspoiled coastal experience filled with windsurfing, fishing and exploring the most accessible and spectacular beaches in Oregon. America’s Wild Rivers Coast offers 101 miles of nature’s best offering some of the most spectacular shoreline and best beach access in Oregon, you’ll also glimpse towering forests and have the opportunity to experience some of the last remaining wild rivers in America. Fabulous fishing, hiking and exploring can be found in almost every town along the way. At sunny Gold Beach the roar of the mighty Pacific, the legendary Rogue River, wide open spaces, fresh salt air, uncrowded beaches, vast forests, incredible hiking trails, and rugged mountains all invite you to relax and explore. From May through October, jetboats offer excursions up into the “Wild and Scenic” sections of the Rogue, giving passengers a close up view of wildlife and river life. The salmon and steelhead fishing in the area is second to none.

Southern Oregon/Applegate Wine Country Surrounded by the Siskiyou Mountains, the scenic Applegate Valley stretches north from the California border to the winding Rogue River.  We’ll discover some of Oregon’s most pastoral scenery in the Applegate Valley.  Visit Applegate Lake and enjoy a picnic stop at McKee Bridge, one of Oregon’s historic covered bridges.  The valley is also home to a number of award-winning family owned wineries.  The Applegate Valley Wine Trail now includes 17 wineries.   Once combed through this wild countryside, through creek beds and rivers and along ridgelines and hilltops, in search of gold in the rocky outcroppings.

Crater Lake National Park Crater Lake has inspired humankind for thousands of years. No place else on earth combines a deep, pure lake, so blue in color; sheer surrounding cliffs, almost two thousand feet high; two picturesque islands and a violent volcanic past. It is a place of immeasurable beauty, and your expert guide will transform it into an outstanding outdoor classroom.

[box]

Central Oregon & Deschutes River Now in the high desert and surrounded by sagebrush we cool down and amp up with a wild whitewater rafting trip down the ‘Lower Deschutes River.”  Paddle through famous class III & IV whitewater with rowdy names like “Boxcar” & “Surf City,” while taking in the beautiful desert canyon, osprey and basalt rock formations.  While in self-proclaimed “Beer City USA” we explore Bend’s finest craft breweries, meet with brew masters and finish the evening with a starlight canoe or snowshoe, depending on the season.

[/box]

Columbia Gorge/Mt. Hood Heading east from Portland toward the spectacular Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area we travel along the mighty Columbia River, under the shadow of Mt. Hood. Be on the lookout for Bald Eagles and Osprey, while admiring the towering basalt cliffs and other fascinating rock formations. On a clear day, white-cloaked volcanic peaks loom over us like sentinels guarding the majestic landscape.  Greeted at nearly every bend of the road with another breath-taking view, including a few of the 70 waterfalls found here, even the second tallest perennial waterfall in the US, Multnomah Falls.  We wonder into a few nearby wineries let the winemakers tell the story of the land, both natural and cultural history, so that with each sip of wine you can begin to understand and experience a little more how the forces that shaped this incredible landscape have also shaped the wine in your glass, creating a terroir that can only be found in this secluded paradise.
