Eclipse the Hops – Oregon Solar Eclipse and Craft Beer Tasting Collaboration with Brewvana Brewery Tours

Monday, August 21, 2017 | 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. | $195 per person

A total solar eclipse is coming to Oregon on August 21, 2017! The moon will block the sun’s light for two full minutes, creating a temporary twilight across parts of Oregon. This rare solar event won’t happen again in Oregon for nearly a century, so you don’t want to miss it!

Brewvana-Portland-Brewery-Tours-LogoLeave the city lights of Portland to view Oregon’s solar eclipse from the scenic Willamette Valley. The ancients celebrated such events, and we’ll do the same, following up this once-in-a-lifetime experience by indulging in some of Oregon’s legendary craft beers with our friends from Brewvana!

The tour includes transport and entrance to the solar eclipse viewing party hosted by the Oregon Science and Industry Museum, as well as lunch and craft beer tastings at Vagabond Brewing and Crosby Hop Farm. Please note that this tour will pick up at the DoubleTree Hotel (at Lloyd Center), 1000 NE Multnomah St. Guests will be expected to arrive at this location at least 20 minutes prior to the tour start time.

ITINERARY

Total Solar EclipseWhile solar eclipses are more frequent than most people think, most of them occur over the ocean. In addition, most solar eclipses are only partial eclipses. It’s rare that a total solar eclipse passes over an area that is developed, accessible, and part of a world-renowned wine region. Therefore, the Oregon eclipse is sure to be a momentous and exciting event!

Start your morning by heading from Portland to the Oregon State Fairgrounds for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry Eclipse Viewing Party. When we arrive, you’ll receive a solar eclipse viewer and guaranteed seat so that your viewing experience is safe and comfortable. The event will also feature science lectures and drum performances to lend a festive atmosphere to the scene!

The total eclipse is set to begin at 10:17 am! At that point, we’ll turn our eyes to sky for two minutes of solar spectacle. While the sun is eclipsed by the moon, we’ll revel in the darkness of the path of totality.

After the eclipse has ended, we’ll celebrate by tasting some of Oregon’s best craft beers with our friends from Brewvana Brewery Tours! You’ll reflect on your eclipse experience over lunch and delicious brews at Vagabond Brewing. Then we’ll head to Crosby Hop Farm for a tour of the farm while drinking some fresh beer!

Throughout the tour, you’ll learn about the brewing process and discover the funky flavor profiles of some of Portland’s most innovative brewers. Take home a Pilsner glass and a sample journal to commemorate your trip!

Evergreen Escapes blends the best natural wonders, boutique wineries, and urban enchantments into small group day tours and private, custom escapes. Our guides aren’t just naturalists, they’re Escape Artists.

1. What should we wear/bring on our escape?

  • Because Pacific Northwest weather can be unpredictable, we recommend wearing removable layers. We also suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes so you can explore further at some of our stops. Finally, it’s always a good idea to bring sunglasses and a camera!  We provide reusable water bottles, along with other snacks and refreshments. See more on how to Pack and  Prepare.

2. How strenuous is this? How much experience do I need to have?

  • All of our scheduled departures are meant for beginners (easy to moderate). Therefore, we try to cater our tours to all ability and interest levels – and this really depends on the group that day. As a result, your guide will choose the difficulty of the activity based on the group’s interest and ability level. If you are interested in a different level, we can also put together a private tour just for you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions!

3. Can I have vegetarian/ special diet food?

  • Yes.  Please advise us if you have any food restrictions or requests. If we know in advance, we can accommodate vegetarian and lactose-free diets. We can also typically accommodate gluten free diets when given enough notice.

4. What is your Cancellation Policy?

5. Should I get Travel Insurance?

  • We recommend that you do.  Travel insurance can be purchased to cover penalty costs in the event you need to cancel or change your travel plans (subject to approval of claim by the insurer). It also can provide medical and emergency assistance protection as well as some loss and delay coverage. Travel insurance can be purchased directly from Evergreen Escapes.

6. Should I tip my guide?

  • We take great personal and professional pride in orchestrating rich and memorable adventures for each and every client. As a result, some of our clients are inspired to show their appreciation in the form of a gratuity. While gratuities are not an expectation, our guides traditionally receive an amount consistent with the rest of the service industry in the U.S. This amount is somewhere between 10% and 20%.
