Jellyfish at the Monterey Bay Aquarium - Visit California

One of the most iconic and striking drives in the United States, Highway One is filled with dramatic views, idyllic beaches, scenic points, and historic mansions. Spend the day immersing yourself in the coastal culture as you wind down the shore with your naturalist guide.

Soak in the serene ocean breezes and watch for harbor seals, sea lions, and otters as you stop at scenic beaches on your way to Monterey Bay. After arriving in town, you’ll have the option to visit the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium home to more than 35,000 plants and animals including sharks, turtles, rays, otters, octopuses, and penguins. You’ll get a VIP experience, visiting exclusive behind-the-scenes areas and hearing in-depth insights on the animals and aquarium.

Monterey Bay Coast - Visit CaliforniaIf you’d rather spend more time outside, you can opt to search for more marine life in the wild on a guided kayaking trip. There is also much to experience from the land, and you can choose to walk along one of our favorite sections of the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail.

Finish your seaside excursion in charming Carmel-by-the-Sea. The picturesque town was home to Native Americans and Spanish missionaries before becoming a haven for bohemians and artists in the early 1900s. It retains its charm and artistic inclinations today, and you’ll find endless diversions in its art galleries, boutiques, historic homes, wine tasting rooms, and cypress lined paths. Before we return to San Francisco, take some free time to meander on your own or ask your guide to show you his or her favorite spots!

[tab title=”FAQ”]

1. What should we wear/bring on our escape?

  • We recommend wearing layers that you can add if there is wind or rain, and remove when there is sunshine. We also suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes to allow you to explore further at some of our stops. Finally, it’s always a good idea to bring sunglasses and a camera! We will provide reusable water bottles, along with other snacks and refreshments. See more on how to Pack and Prepare.

2. How strenuous is this? How much experience do I need to have?

  • The physical difficulty of our private tours is up to you! We will bring you to trails that match your ability level and mood that day. You’ll also have the option to limit walking to a minimum if that’s what you’d prefer.

3. Can I have vegetarian/ special diet food?

  • Yes. Please advise us if you have any food restrictions or requests, we can accommodate vegetarian diets, lactose intolerant diets. We can also provide gluten free meals when given enough notice.

4. What is your Cancellation Policy?

5. Should I get Travel Insurance?

  • We recommend that you do. Travel insurance can be purchased to cover penalty costs in the event you need to cancel or change your travel plans (subject to approval of claim by the insurer). It also can provide medical and emergency assistance protection as well as some loss and delay coverage. Travel insurance can be purchased directly from Evergreen Escapes.

6. Should I tip my guide?

  • We take great pride in delivering rich and memorable adventures for each and every client. Sometimes our clients are inspired to show their appreciation in the form of a gratuity. While tips are not an expectation, our guides traditionally receive an amount consistent with the rest of the service industry in the U.S., somewhere between 10% and 20%.
