Mt. Rainier looms large in the hearts of Northwestern residents. On a clear day, the beautiful, hulking monolith can be seen from just about anywhere. At the height of summer, lucky travelers and locals alike make a pilgrimage to her flower-flanked trails for the kind of relaxation, fresh air, and peace that only comes with a walk in a quiet, magnificently wild place. We’ll set out on foot for an easy 3.5-mile loop to experience Mt. Rainier National Park’s magic.

There’s only one way to follow up that type of transcendental human experience – wine tasting. There’s no better place than Washington State’s steadily ascending wine region, the Yakima Valley. Euro-American settlers brought wine grapes to the state in the mid-1800s; Washington’s residents have worked hard on their wines ever since. Today, a new winery opens every 15 days! We partner with wineries that paint a beautiful picture of this rich heritage; we’ll visit two excellent winemakers east of the tallest mountain in Washington!

Join a few other travelers (each trip is ten people or fewer) and an award-winning guide on a real exploration of our wild home. Don’t worry – we’ll take care of absolutely everything. If you’re staying downtown (hotel, Airbnb, etc) we’ll pick you up! We’ll text/call the day prior to your trip to confirm exact timing. We’re bringing breakfast bakery, local coffee and tea. We’ll also bring a fresh, local, family-style lunch with local wines! Snacks, sparkling water and water are included all day.

Hike Mount Rainier & Yakima Wine Tasting Tour – Traveler Testimonials

Here is what recent travelers have said about our Mt. Rainier & Yakima Valley wine tours from Seattle:

“Put sommeliers to shame.”

We took a tour to Mt Rainer National Park & Yakima Valley Wine tasting, our third of three tours we’ve booked with Evergreen Escapes for this week. Our guide Alex was fun, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable—especially concerning the most important things…wine! Alex would put some sommeliers to shame. On this tour, we had only two other passengers so it was very special and we were unencumbered with a large group (note: our two previous tours with Evergreen Escapes were small, too, but this was even more personal). Our first stop was Federation Forest Park and then an amazing drive to Mt Rainer. The 4+ mile hike on the Naches Peak Loop was absolutely phenomenal! The wild flowers were so beautiful and seemed to be in peak both in color and quantity, the lakes were beautifully clear and seemingly untarnished by humans despite being such a popular location. We saw black tailed deer, ground squirrels, and chipmunks. There were also so many views, we were able to see everything around us, for miles! After the hike we enjoyed a picnic lunch before heading to Yakima Valley for wine tasting. The terrain there was so different, it was like a mountain desert or the high desert of southern California. We stopped for some amazing sparkling wine at Treveri Cellars and then onto Owen Roe Winery for some great Chardonnay and Cabernet. Absolutely recommend Evergreen Escapes!

“One of the BEST tours I’ve ever been on.”

I came across this tour online and did not now what to expect. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised!!
First off Preston, our tour guide and driver, picked us up at the hotel right on time. The van was immaculate and extremely comfortable. Once the other members were picked up we traveled to Mt. Rainier. On the way we stopped in a nice park for a really cool homemade breakfast that Preston brought.
We then arrived at Mt Rainier and did our hike. Preston was extremely knowledgeable, kept a great pace for the group, and brought all of the supplies we would need. We finished and began our trip to Yakima Valley for the winery tour.
On the way, Preston brought us to an out of the way spot next to the river for a FANTASTIC home made lunch. (with wine)!!
Once to the Yakima Valley, we hit two wineries that were fantastic. Once again, Preston hit a home run with picking these two locations. The staff were extremely friendly and spot on when it came to their products.
I HIGHLY recommend this tour but ESPECIALLY if you can get Preston. He was fantastic!

“Wonderful summer day.”

I went on this tour a few weeks ago and was impressed with every aspect of it. It is clear that this group not only knows their information, but that they truly care about providing an excellent experience to everyone.
First – comfy tour van. Clean and spacious, padded seats I maybe napped in, and you only have to touch arms with your neighbor if you really want to.
Second – Nature hike. The hike was not difficult, but beautiful and serene, exactly what I need after a hectic work week. We were treated to lots of information about the landscape, various mountain ranges in the area and their volcanic activity (a particularly riveting conversation for much of us), and identification of some local flowers and moss. It was clear our guide was not only full of knowledge, but he was also engaging and fun to chat with.
Third – lunch and wildflowers – seriously need I say more? Yes – because the lake was beautiful, the tables were set with linens and dishes that made me feel much fancier than I do on any other hike – AND, maybe most importantly, they went out of their way to provide for dietary restrictions.
Lastly – wine. We visited two wineries and basked in the sunlight with good conversation, wine, and snacks. It was so fun to learn the differences between the wineries we visited and the true variety that Washington wines have to offer.
If you are visiting Seattle and want to experience some wildly different nature and wine in one fell swoop or just looking to escape the buzz of the city then this trip is for you.

“Exceeded our expecations.”

What a great day! Our guide, Alex, was super friendly and knowledgeable. In addition to flawlessly keeping our group safe, comfortable, and on schedule, he has a wealth of knowledge about the area and was more than happy to share it with the group.
The pickup was on-time and the van was comfortable. We had a full van but the accommodations were great. The trip to the hiking point was about an hour and a half with one stop for coffee and a bite at a state park. The hike was about 3 1/2 miles at a leisurely pace, with a mix of gradual and moderate climbs on the trail. We had fantastic views of Mount Rainier and Mount Adams.
After the hike we had lunch at the picnic area by the trailhead. The food and wine were great (we were famished after the hike!) and it was very well-appointed with tablecloths, real plates, silverware and cloth napkins.
After lunch we headed to the Yakima Valley and experienced the landscape going from green forest to desert in Central Washington. Among the desert hills are patches of vineyards and fruit orchards. The winery visits were perfectly timed and relaxing for all.
The drive back to Seattle at the end of the tour was long, about 2 hours and 15 minutes, but it passed quickly as most everyone was dozing off from the hike and the wine.
We would definitely recommend this tour as a great way to spend a vacation day.
